There has been a long-standing commitment within the lacrosse community to support and promote the work of the One Love Foundation, whose creation in 2010 came about after the devastating loss of UVA women’s lacrosse player Yeardley Love. The event shook the collegiate lacrosse world and motivated Yeardley’s mother, Sharon Love, into action.
From hosting “One Love” charity games to logging miles to raise awareness with “Yards for Yeardley” running events, IWLCA members have been at the forefront of growing the exposure and positive impact of Yeardley Love’s name and story on so many young men and women today.
Recently, the IWLCA spoke with the One Love Foundation about collaborating on an event where our member coaches’ love for teaching the game of lacrosse could be combined with the positive educational components that are associated with One Love programming. The hope was to create something that would empower high school players both on the field and off of it… and with that, Lax with Love was created.
“We are very excited to partner with the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association to strengthen our involvement within the lacrosse community. Together, we will proactively teach the next generation about the importance of relationship health and change lives.”
– Katie Hood, One Love Foundation CEO
“We are thrilled to announce this amazing multi-city clinic collaboration event with the One Love Foundation. Lax with Love was created from our desire to combine the game that we all love, with an opportunity that empowers players and families to learn more about healthy relationships and give back to a wonderful cause. It is through tremendous support from our member coaches within the IWLCA that Lax with Love is here!”
